Options For Recycling Your Junk Car

Posted on

If your car was in an accident and is completely totaled or if there is simply a car that refuses to run and that no one seems to be able to fix taking up space in your driveway, then you are going to need to make sure that you get rid of it as efficiently as possible. Here are some different options for getting rid of your car.

1. Selling it to a Junkyard

Your first option is to sell your junk car to a junkyard. In order to do this, first call all of the junkyards in your area and accurately describe your car and the condition that it's in. Have pictures ready to send them if they need to see the car before they are able to give you an estimate. By calling multiple junkyards, you will be able to make absolutely certain that you are getting the best price for your vehicle.

If there's no way that you're going to be able to get the vehicle to the junkyard on your own, then you might need to sacrifice some of the money that you would otherwise receive in order to have the junkyard come pick up your vehicle.

2. Selling it to an Online Scrapping Company

Another option is to sell your junk car to an online scrapping company. This can be done by looking for scrapping companies that are operating within your area. Set up an account with the company, and upload photos of your car as well as copies of your driver's license and your vehicle registration. The scrapping company will look at your profile and decide whether or not they will be able to make use of your junk car. If they will be able to make use of it, then you can simply schedule a time for them to come pick up your vehicle. Always check out online companies through your local better business bureau in order to make sure that they are legitimate. You will either be paid with a check after the vehicle has been picked up or through an online method of payment.

3. Donate Your Car to Charity

Finally, call up a charity that is accepting junk cars and see if they would be willing to value your car, give you a receipt for your donation, and then pick up the car and take it away. You can then write off the value of the car as a charitable deduction and end up paying less taxes the following year.
